Falls Church, VA is located just west of Arlington and minutes away from Tysons Corner. Excellent schools, easy access to Washington, DC, and a picturesque small-town suburban feel make Falls Church one of the most popular areas in Northern Virginia for homebuyers.

Falls Church gets its name from The Falls Church, an 18th-century Anglican parish. In 2011, Falls Church was named the richest county in the United States with median annual household income of $113,313, and an estimated population of over 13,000 residents.

The schools in Falls Church have received not only local, but also national recognition. At one point, George Mason High School ranked #1 in the DC area by Washington Post and #6 in the nation by Newsweek Magazine. Falls Church residents are also eligible to send students to the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, a public magnet school with application-based admission.

Along with Metro that runs through the Falls Church area, the innovative GEORGE bus system is another popular form of public transportation. The clean diesel GEORGE buses are part of a pilot program designed to reduce emissions and pollutants throughout Northern Virginia.

Another part of the Falls Church green movement is a series of events designed to teach residents how to improve the local community. Many events have focused on horticulture, arboriculture, conservation, the environment, and earth stewardship. Falls Church is also home to the first green condominium in Northern Virginia. The Spectrum Condominium, located on West Broad Street, is an excellent example of the choices builders and homeowners can make to improve energy efficiency, air quality and conservation of natural resources.

A portion of the 45-mile Washington & Old Dominion (W&OD) Trail runs through Falls Church. The trail used to provide railroad transportation until 1951, but has since been converted into a path heavily used by walkers, runners, and bicyclists. Falls Church offers many of your daily needs within walking distance, and residents can enjoy the outdoors by taking advantage of the various parks and free summer concert series.

The Falls Church Farmer’s Market is held Saturdays year-round, Jan. 3 – April 25 (9 am – Noon), May 2 – Dec. 26 (8 am – Noon), at the City Hall Parking Lot, 300 Park Ave. In addition to regional attention, the market was ranked first in the medium category of the American Farmland Trust’s contest to identify America’s Favorite Farmers’ Markets in 2010.
Falls Church is not a particularly transient town, which tends to limit housing inventory and leads to a highly competitive market. Even during times when the numbers of active buyers decrease, housing inventory has remained relatively low. If Falls Church is an area you would like to live, it is important to keep a close eye on active and new listings in the area.
